This never ending election cycle that has grown with the 24/7 information age has done it's damage. It is no longer a question of if it will, it already has, this skew of "candidates" is proof of that. The popularity of Trump damning evidence that we are indeed going in the wrong direction.
I have to admit I was fascinated with the coverage of the first Gulf War by CNN in the early 90's.
War, live on TV, who could top the ratings for that? We were being the Americans that I grew up being, helping out a country or ally, even if there were ulterior motives or ambitions.
It was about that time that I was sitting behind a 286/386 computer and was equally fascinated that I could find information on some of the things going on. The Cold War over but still warming up to a modest 20 below.
The pastel revolution that brought us into this new age was doing it for all of the right reasons in their hearts. Little could be known of the content of humankind and the effect of basically moving in with everyone else. We were not at all prepared, nor could we have imagined what that really meant.
It was a Pandora's Box for sure, and we are just now seeing it's full effects. I believe it was the movie Office Space that brought about the idea of securing the .01 cent that was left over from many transactions. That should have been a precursor and a warning because every company and municipality has been doing that ever since with everything. The pennies would become dollars simply by mere mass and numbers and somebody wanted it all, a lot of somebody's.
That moving in with everyone else is causing a lot of animosity and division these days. People want to slap a national label on their part of America and call it the real thing. The only problem with that is you cannot encompass liberty as simply one way of life or another. It is the definition of all of us and it is the definition of diversity. It was the liberty that allowed Trump's father to make his millions as a racist and unforgiving slum lord and pass that down to his son. That same liberty that allowed MLK to rise up against the very likes of those thinking and acting like Trump.
I often say that we are ignorant to our history as we ply the waters of the future. We are, we have fought wars and people have died to rid our society of the things that some would use for personal gain. The utterance of a long dead word or a notion that was a part of a vile regime all too easily repeated as click bait on our psyches. The future well of goodwill being poisoned out of callous ignorance. Is this the kind of thing that represents America?
There is a card game of sorts being played out on the public. It is not a poker hand or blackjack, it is a shill game of three card Monte. Things are never what they seem to be or in the place where you believe them to be. It took a long time for us to get to this point and we went willingly, now this thing we used to call politics, and the running of our country has been reduced to some bizarre twisted American Idol entertainment gamble. Of course the money still runs it, but it's the click bait value of the candidates that is making it to the "polls."
The problem with information being available to every Tom, Dick and Scary out there is human in nature. There is no problem with the information itself, that represents what it is, it is what we as humans do with it that is the scary part. We tend to, as humans, want to destroy or pick apart those things we cannot understand. The reassemble it to match our thinking instead of allowing it to change our thinking. Not everyone and not on all issues but in general I often see that pattern. When we were given the ability to move in with everyone else and have our questions answered too. We brought that process along for the ride as well. Companies and people saw that and have taken full advantage of that, in another piece on here I clearly stated we were a commodity, that view has not changed.
We have taken ourselves willingly on this road trip into a grand experiment, call it Humanities 2.1.
We have become a society willing to shill out the White House and this countries highest office to the next P.T. Barnum. Downright hate and divisiveness stoked for those things we do not understand, all in the name of some misplaced idea that this is American. We tend to break things, and continue to break them until they are at our own level of understanding. If you haven't noticed we are no longer very educated as far as the general masses go, myself one of them. So how much can we understand anymore? Ho much do we have to break stuff and people and countries until it satisfies our ignorant standards?
In this world of tiny boxes that program us daily, we have become the fated calf. Unwilling to understand that this country was and is founded and kept going on the very principle of liberty. That means it will always be changing and diverse, always breaking and fixing things. If this is how far we have broken ourselves then we have a lot of work to do. Liberty will always win out in the hearts and minds of mankind, that means all mankind, not just yours, or mine, or theirs. We the People.... It's about time that meant something again.
