With Cruz beating out Jabba the Trump last night in Iowa and Rubio doing almost as well in a close third, I have to ask. Was this actually a Cruz and Rubio victory or a stinging rebuke to the man who would be king?
The pundits got it wrong again with their "polls" on Trump and Iowans appear to have been classically Iowan. The thing to remember about Iowa though is that is does not reflect the majority, in fact to use it as a true indicator would be foolish. They had to have something and they get to talk and caucus about the fields first is all.
No matter what your thoughts are about Iowa and the whole election system, they did the world a favor. For when they did not vote for Trump and made Ted Cruz the winner they voted for America and I dare say the world. This is Trump's first defeat of any kind in the media and by the voters. He is feeling the burn of a different kind this morning, that of being a loser. We all know his thoughts on that issue now don't we? This was his first loss in the bigger version of Celebrity Apprentice, he does not have too many to lose before his 'winning' odds make him want to hit his own casino's.
Was it though a real vote for Ted? Or was it the only way the good people of Iowa could send the message that they like the show, not the substance? Iowa is religious by nature and their voters show it at the voting booth. It should be no surprise that the two who speak of governmental issues as being more biblical in nature than anything else would get the lions share of the vote. Trump a veritable illiterate to the words in the scripture and that was plain as day to them and probably offensive somehow. He really messed up there because he lied to the people, his own people and they knew it. Up until then he was all about the truth in their eyes about much, but don't go messing with God now.
So Iowa has chosen. A religious right candidate and pumped up another one. How completely predictable from a look at the history of their votes. This country is not one based on Christianity no matter how many mouth breathers say it was. There is no Chaplain in Chief or Supreme Flying Spaghetti Monster position up for grabs. The rebuttal that is envisioned by those on the right is to be a swift one, to justify their own religious and moral beliefs. A virtual miracle worthy of God, divine proof that theirs the will of His bearded grace. The screeching halt to this immoral progress and the turning of the clock on what "others" have done to them their biggest hope.
Religion aside Iowans are not a dumb lot. They know the business of this electoral process, they do have an understanding of their position in this whole picture. They will not subject themselves to some circus act of a candidate with no platform and insincere jibe of "We'll work something out." Nor will they subject the rest of the country to the continuance of a delusional salesman of the reptile petroleum products guaranteed to keep numerous demographics at bay.
So we have a loser in Iowa, and a virtual tie on the other side of the aisle. What oh what should we do? There has been a great change on a large scale under Obama, whether that is seen as good or bad is a matter of perspective. In my opinion the last thing this country needs is another round of massive change just to undo it. Nor would it be a good business practice to continue with great change at an alarming rate to many. We have turned a corner so to speak with this administration, some for the better and some not so much, but a corner has been turned. The divisiveness that we have seen rise to a head was inevitable as our economy and national fabric started to un-weave a bit. The economy brought on by the last administration almost insured that outcome, we were going to have to be tight and things are gong to hurt. That was said on day one of this administration though and nobody can say they were not warned.
We need a calming and smoothing out time, find out if the changes that were made were the right ones for he right reasons. We need someone with experience in the very thing that in all honesty this country really needs right now, a mother. We don't need to continue to change at such a pace as Sanders would have us go, it is already headed there fast enough anyways. We do not need the knee jerk high step of turning back that progress with anything the GOP is rolling out to simply try to save it's own butt, not ours. We don't need someone that wants to change the world, we need someone who wants to save our country, mothers are like that you know. Mothers see their kids through great change and love them anyways. They stop the fighting between their kids and they do what is right for them no matter what. Grandma's even more so. As I look around this country and world right now there is no doubt in my mind that I want and we need a mother. Someone who can keep the boys in check, clean a dirty house, and deal with the girls stuff as well without getting all squirmy and feely about it. One who can flip the bird to those that would cut her off in traffic and still bring home the groceries and cook the dinner on time, then look you square in the eye and say it's your turn tomorrow.
We don't need a Mamma Grizzly, we have a China Shop to run too. We don't need a bunch of white men running out of some overt spite and simply for their egos. We do not need a seemingly medicated token colored man trying to look the part of anything near capable. With all due respect, and I must say always has me hemming, we do not and I believe cannot continue at this pace of societal change in this country that Bern would have us do. We have many generations in this country and we should respect the lives and beliefs of them all. We need a mother now more than ever. A good spanking...when deserved, can do wonders.
